Visalia CRC exists to glorify God and make disciples by grafting each person into Gospel-shaped community. This year, we will be seeking to strengthen our Gospel-shaped community and help different parts of our family tree to connect with one another through Emmaus Meals. Meals were an important part of Jesus' ministry; many famous stories occur around meal time including the story of Jesus revealing his identity in Emmaus.
There is something important about sharing a meal together, and Jesus used this routine occasion to teach and to reveal himself. Today as well, meals are still a wonderful occasion during which we can encounter our Lord in community with one another.
Here's how we'll do this. Throughout the coming year we will all share meals with people in our church who are not a part of our family or normal circle of friends. The meal itself could be at one of your homes or it could be at a local restaurant. You also might find yourself having more than one meal; you might fin yourself having a meal with a couple different people or families. All of that is great! For better discussions it will be best to keep the group to about 6 adults or fewer. We're not so concerned with the rules and specifics, but in the spirit of the Emmaus meal, to allow for Christ's followers to encounter him through fellowship with each other over a meal.
Our prayer is that through this year-long initiative, our church has the opportunity to grow in our love for our Savior and for each other. We long to be a Gospel-shaped community.
