Consider God’s Wonders

Job 37:14-16

Listen to this, Job; stop and consider God’s wonders.

Do you know how God controls the clouds and makes his lightning flash?

Do you know how the clouds hang poised, those wonders of him who has perfect knowledge?

Life is busy. It’s a well-known fact. The world doesn’t stop moving, and neither do we. Because of this, we inevitably forget to pause and take in our surroundings. We work, go to school, take care of our families, sleep, and repeat. We get so used to our surroundings and routine that we don’t think to look for something new or different in our everyday environments. We have trained our minds to accomplish the things we need to accomplish. We focus our minds strictly on those aspects. We focus to the extent of blindsiding ourselves to both our immediate surroundings and the rest of the world.

God has created a world so beautiful and beyond our understanding. It is vast and different. It can teach us so many valuable things. But in order to find these lessons, and the beauty in them, we must take time to stop and look around. We do hear this quite a lot throughout our lifetimes, and I think that’s for a good reason. If we have to hear it a million times a day to actually stop and look around, then so be it.

As Christians, it is very important for us to try to understand the world we were placed in. God created every seemingly minuscule thing in our daily lives that we don’t notice. The clouds “hanging poised” in the sky, the placement of lightning, the shade of green of a tree, the wind in fall leaves, etc. Recognizing these things allows us to take a step in understanding the beautiful, messy, complex, world that we live in. Just as Job was instructed, so are we. Stop and consider God’s wonders.

Dear Lord,

Help us today to recognize and truly see your wonders today, so that we may begin to understand your creation.
