INHERITANCE

Psalm 112
1. Praise the Lord.
Blessed are those who fear the Lord, who find great delight in his commands.
2. Their children will be mighty in the land; the generation of the upright will be blessed.
3. Wealth and riches are in their houses, and their righteousness endures forever.
4. Even in darkness light dawns for the upright, for those who are gracious and compassionate and righteous.
5. Good will come to those who are generous and lend freely, who conduct their affairs with justice.
6. Surely the righteous will never be shaken; they will be remembered forever.
7. They have no fear of bad news; their hearts are steadfast, trusting in the Lord.
8. Their hearts are secure, they will have no fear, in the end they will look in triumph on their foes.
9. They have freely scattered their gifts to the poor, their righteousness endures forever, their horn will be lifted high in honor.
10. The wicked will see and be vexed, they will gnash their teeth and waste away; the longings of the wicked will come to nothing.

Have you ever received a large inheritance? Maybe your parents did, and they used it wisely and gave you an even greater one! That is something most people wish they could be a part of – gaining or giving a wonderful inheritance! There are also families (sadly even Christian families) who fight over what they think is rightfully theirs. In the end we all need to ask ourselves, “What is true riches or the greatest inheritance we can receive?”

Perhaps we need to ask the question, “What does the Bible teach about rewards, or gaining wealth and riches?”
We could also ask ourselves, “How do we want to be remembered?”
“What helps influence our children to be mighty in the land and be a generation that is upright? (verse 2 above)
“What gives us wealth and riches or what kind of wealth and riches might they be? (verse 3 above)”
We know the riches of this earth won’t last – in fact the Bible teaches not to store up wealth where moth and rust corrupt and thieves break through and steal (Matthew 6:19) – so what riches are really valuable?

The verses above give a lot of clues to what is worthwhile in life so that when we leave this earth our memory will continue on in the hearts of those close to us but mainly, we will be kept in the heart of God forever.
Verse 3 explains that wealth and riches are called righteousness.
Verse 4 shows we live in the light when we are compassionate and gracious.
Verses 5 – 7  tells us when we are just and generous we will never be shaken. We won’t fear bad news and our hearts will be steadfast in the Lord.
Verses 8 – 10 give more wonderful clues of how to live life in freedom from fear because the wicked can never win when God is in control. It also makes us hold loosely to our money when we know there is a great need to help the poor.

All these thoughts remind me of people who are walking in God’s ways and overcoming evil with their love and kindness. It doesn’t mean they are perfect, but their lives show they are living under the grace of Jesus and in that richness and wealth they spread and share what God has given to them with others.

We have to make sure we understand we are the richest people on earth simple because we know the salvation story!! If we hide it under a bush, we are to be most pitied. If we think we can’t communicate well enough, or we have made too many mistakes ourselves in life to be able to help another, we fall into the devil’s trap of silence and/or insecurity.

I want to challenge myself in this year of 2026 to have daily prayer for who God may want me to share his truth with. It can often be someone right in your home or a friend close by.  Elder Gary Van Essen gave a challenge as well with very easy to share business cards! We all must realize that only God changes the heart.  We are his witnesses to the riches available for the taking!

I wanted to end with this short excerpt from “Drawn From Every Land” a devotion book from our Back to God ministry,
“Many years ago, a devout preacher took one of his students into the city to preach to the people there. They walked for a long time, meeting and talking with people in all walks of life, without once stopping to address the crowds. Finally, the student asked, “When are we going to find a place where we can begin to preach?” The saintly preacher replied, “We have been preaching to the people all the while we have been walking among them.”

2026:  SHARE THE WEALTH WE HAVE IN JESUS!

AMEN!?
